Jan 30, 2019

Electronic Voting Soon?

The Election Commission is considering implementing an electronic voting system.

However, chairman Azhar Harun told Berita Harian, an in-depth analysis will have to be done before the system can be adopted.

Among other things, he has concerns about potential hacking, as well as the cost of implementation.

The electronic voting system is one of the suggestions the EC recently gave to the Electoral Reform Committee.

It is already being used in India and Brazil.

Android TV boxes that consumers use to access pirated content, may soon be a thing of the past!

MCMC says the sale and ownership of such boxes is illegal in Malaysia, and the commission could intervene to regulate its usage.

It explains the Android TV boxes may require SIRIM approval, or the pirated content may come under the purview of copyright infringement.

Earlier this month, Singapore proposed a ban on the sale of set-top boxes or media streaming boxes with services that grant access to pirated content.

Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad said they are still negotiating the project and are trying to find better solutions.

This comes after the Economic Affairs Minister announced the cancellation last week.

The Finance Minister was also due to make a statement on the matter this week, but says he had been told not to by Tun M.

Beware Fake MACC Letters

The MACC has denied sending letters asking people for money in exchange for cases under investigation to be closed.

Such letters have been circulated online, attached with a QR code to a bitcoin account.

The MACC says several people have already been cheated by the fake letter.
