Several Malaysians held captive in Cambodia

Feb 07, 2019

Nearly 50 Malaysians have been detained in Cambodia, believed to be victims of a human trafficking scam.

According to the Malay Mail, Julai MP Larry Sng says the majority of them are from poor families in Sarawak.

The scammers allegedly promise the victims high-paying jobs in return for a cash payment in US dollars.

However, a few weeks after they arrived in Cambodia, they were arrested for alleged involvement in an online gaming syndicate.

As such, a group of NGOs from Sarawak will band together to push for their safe release.
