Former IGP Musa Hassan proposes alternative to death penalty

Former IGP Tan Sri Musa Hassan is proposing an alternative to abolishing the death penalty for crimes like murder. 

Pakatan Harapan is making efforts to get rid of capital punishment, as per its election manifesto. 

However, it's being opposed by several quarters, including former senior police officers. 

As a compromise Tan Sri Musa says the government should consider keeping the death penalty, but at the same time it could also bring back jury trials for murder cases, to avoid abuse of power.

Malaysia abolished trials by jury in 1995.

One of the last cases was the Mona Fandey murder trial.

Azmin Ali still in PKR

Datuk Seri Azmin Ali is still PKR's Deputy President. 

He says recent viral rumours about his dismissal from the party are not true.

Azmin described it as the work of irresponsible individuals. 

This not the first online rumour involving Azmin. 

Recently, another rumour claimed that he would replace Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail as Deputy Prime Minister. 

That claim has also been debunked.

AG calls to quicken outcome of Najib's appeal to postpone SRC trial

The Attorney-General will write a letter to the Court of Appeal, urging it to speed up its hearing of an appeal by Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, over an issue regarding his SRC International trial. 

Tommy Thomas says this is to ensure that the former Prime Minister's trial, on seven charges related to SRC, can begin on the 25th of this month.

The trial was supposed to start today, but the Court of Appeal ordered the postponement, pending the outcome of Najib's appeal.

Cambodia to revisit arrest of 47 Malaysians

Cambodia is re-examining the case of the 47 Malaysians who were detained there recently. 

According to the Malay Mail, the Cambodian Justice Ministry is doing so, following a request from the Malaysian Embassy in Phnom Penh.

The Malaysians, mainly from poor families, were reported to be victims of a job scam. 

They were lured to Cambodia by promises of high-paying jobs, but once they were there, they were arrested on suspicion of being involved in an illegal gambling ring.
