Plain packaging for cigarettes soon?

Feb 13, 2019

After the expanded smoking ban, the government now wants to introduce plain packaging for cigarettes.

It told Free Malaysia Today, it's looking at similar rules that have been adopted in countries like Australia.

Under plain packaging rules, all forms of branding are removed from cigarette packs, including corporate logos and trademarks, leaving only the brand name.

The health warnings are featured a lot more prominently, while the size and color of all cigarette packs will be standardised.

This, as studies showed that plain packaging can make cigarettes less attractive, especially for youths.
