Mixed reactions about MCA and MIC wanting to leave BN

The upper echelons of UMNO seem to be divided over how they feel about MCA and MIC wanting to leave Barisan Nasional. 

UMNO's Deputy President has agreed to call for a supreme council meeting to address the issue.

But in the meantime, he called for calm and asked both parties not to be hasty. 

The UMNO sec-gen also thinks the meeting is a good idea, as he says all founding members have lots to discuss.

MCA and MIC have been standing by UMNO for about 70 years, though rain and storm, but has seemed to be taking tougher stance since BN lost in GE14.  

The straw that broke the camel's back appears to be BN sec-gen Datuk Seri Nazri Aziz's controversial statements on the Semenyih by-election campaign trail. 

He was accused of being racist, after allegedly calling for the abolishment of vernacular schools, among other statements.

The Padang Rengas MP is being investigated for sedition for his speech. 

The Chinese and Indian based parties said his statements have damaged ties between the 3 Barisan founding members. 

They have also refused to recognise Nazri's appointment as Barisan's sec-gen, calling it illegal. 

In response, the MP says MCA and MIC are free to leave the coalition if they want and it won't be a loss to BN. 

He also claims UMNO and PAS will be forming an official alliance before GE15.

There seens to be some weight to that statement as the 2 parties are meeting today to discuss using a common logo for the next general election.
