Mar 18, 2019

Sungai Kim Kim clean, but remains restricted

Sungai Kim Kim has been cleaned up, but the area still remain under lock down until Wednesday.

Johor authorities also confirmed the highly toxic hydrogen cyanide gas has been found in the area, but assured it's at low levels and not dangerous, unless there is prolonged exposure.

Meanwhile, the police are close to catching a suspect, who dumped the chemical waste into the river in Pasir Gudang.

The cops have asked the public to cooperate, as nine road blocks have been set up around the area.

Residents who evacuated the area have been assured that their vacated homes are safe, as the police have assigned 150 personnel to guard them.

Malaysia at risk of burning up

The Met Department says almost the entire country is at extreme risk of fire in this hot weather.

As such, it said open burning is strictly prohibited as it will be extremely difficult to control fire under the current hot and dry spell.

Sabah authorities have been battling an average of 40 fires a day due to the dry spell.

Yesterday, Pendang in Kedah was the hottest in Malaysia with temperatures of between 37 and 40 degrees celcius - that's a Level 2 heatwave warning.

The Met Department has issued a Level 1 alert for nine other areas, including KL, Petaling in Selangor, Melaka Tengah, Kinta in Perak and Bentong in Pahang.

Meanwhile, the air quality in Banting, Selangor was unhealthy as at 6:00am and the air in Rompin, Pahang was very unhealthy.

Lombok earthquake: Second Malaysian confirmed dead

At least two Malaysians have been killed in an earthquake in Lombok, Indonesia.

They were there on holiday when they got caught up by a landslide at a waterfall, triggered by the 5.5-magnitude quake.

Several Malaysians are still missing, but the Education Ministry has confirmed all our students are safe.

Dozens of people died in the quake, but the death toll could rise, as rescuers are trying to pull people out of the rubble of about 500 destroyed buildings.

MCA will not leave BN

MCA is staying with Barisan Nasional.

After saying it wants to leave several times, the Chinese party now says it will stick with the former ruling coalition, to ensure there is no racial-based political inclination.

MCA also seems to have accepted the UMNO-PAS cooperation, saying it was unavoidable they would work together.
