Govt looking to reduce private cancer treatment costs

The Health Ministry is looking at how to cut the cost of cancer treatment at private hospitals.

It's working with the  Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry and other agencies to make it possible. 

Its minister among other things it may make changes to the mechanism that determines treatment costs.

A longer price control period for Raya?


The govt may extend the enforcement period for the Hari Raya Aidilfitri price control scheme. 

The Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry didn't give an exact time-frame, but it will be longer than the usual period of 14 to 15 days. 

Its minister says it's necessary to keep prices in check for an extended period, as people usually continue to hold Raya open houses throughout the month of Syawal. 

He adds that the proposal may also be expanded to other festivals as well.

3 Pasir Gudang polution suspects to be charged 


3 suspects were taken to court this morning, to face charges related to chemical waste dumping in Pasir Gudang, Johor earlier this month. 

The polution sickened thousands of people, and forced all schools in the district to shut down until the end of the current school holiday.

Man tries to smuggle live orangutan

A Russian man has been arrested in Bali, Indonesia on suspicion of trying to smuggle out a young orangutan.

The two-year-old protected male orangutan was reportedly drugged and kept hidden inside a basket, when it was discovered at Bali's airport.

The suspect claims he was given the animal by a friend who bought it for $3,000.
