All 3 opposition members of the PAC have resigned

Mar 25, 2019

All 3 opposition members of the Public Accounts Committee have resigned.

The opposition leader says this is until the govt finds a suitable replacement for chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ronald Kiandee, who recently switched parties to become a member of the ruling coalition.

He said the decision to retain Kiandee went against PH's manifesto, which said that the PAC leader should be a member of the opposition.

Meanwhile, Deputy Speaker Nga Kor Ming says Parliament will allow the PAC to conclude ongoing proceedings before selecting a new chairman.

Earlier, PM Tun Dr Mahathir said that PH will keep to that promise, adding Dr Kiandee will only remain as the PAC chairman until a suitable candidate is found.

Police have recorded 26 statements over last Friday's scuffle between a group of uni students and Datuk Seri Najib Razak's supporters.

IGP Tan Sri Mohd Fuzi Harun didn't say who were questioned, and kept mum on whether any arrests will be made.

11 police reports have been lodged over the matter.

Last week, a viral video showed several of the former PM's supporters attacking the UM students, who had challenged him about the 1MDB scandal.
