We could soon be paying less for electricity!

The government is considering lowering prices thanks to a drop in the price of coal and natural gas in the global market. 

The Prime Minister says the goverment's proposal will be taken to the Cabinet for consideration before the new tariff is fixed.

On water tariffs, the Selangor Menteri Besar says the price adjustment proposed by the federal goverment is too high, at almost 50 percent more than the existing rate. 

As such, it's still looking into how to adjust the new rate, to ensure consumers, especially the B40 group, are not affected. 

However, Amirudin Shari stood by the state goverment's decision to stop free water for the M40 group, saying they should be able to afford their water bills.

MPs call for law to address racism

MPs want a new law on racism to address both physical and verbal abuse.

Bukit Gelugor MP Ramkarpal Singh said this in the Dewan Negara yesterday, and received support from other lawmakers. 

He was commenting on an issue at UM last week, where UMNO supporters allegedly attacked students who were protesting against former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak.

Foreign companies keen for a piece of MAS

Several foreign companies are reportedly keen to acquire a stake in struggling Malaysia Airlines. 

The Council of Eminent Persons Chairman says the interested parties come from Europe, Asia and the Middle East.

MAS is currently 100 percent owned by Khazanah, but because of its financial issues, the Prime Minister is considering either selling it off, refinancing it or shutting it down.
