Pollution-hit schools in Pasir Gudang reopen

The 111 schools in Pasir Gudang, Johor that were forced to close because of pollution in Sg Kim Kim, opened their doors to students again today. 

All students and teachers, however, were still asked to wear facemasks as a precaution. 

Turnout at the affected schools is reported to be good, with 90% attending classes today.

State education officials are also confident that teachers will be able to help their students catch up with the syllabus, despite the over two-week closure.

Dialysis Patient Numbers On The Rise

The number of dialysis patients in the country is expected to rise to about 50,000 next year. 

This is up from the current figure of over 39,000. 

The Health Ministry says part of the reason for this is because more people are coming forward to get health checks.

Feedback Sought Over Plastic Bag Levy

Penang has assured there will be discussions with all stakeholders before the levy for plastic bags in the state is raised from 20 to 50 sen. 

The Chief Minister says the matter was discussed at a state exco meeting last week, but more input from the public is needed before the move is implemented.
