Najib reminisces becoming Prime Minister today in court

Apr 03, 2019

Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak's corruption trial finally begins today, on the 10th anniversary of him becoming Malaysia's sixth Prime Minister.

The trial had been delayed by about two months, and Najib is trying to delay it further, but a hearing on that will only happen tomorrow.

Today at 2pm, the Pekan MP will stand trial for seven charges in connection to SRC International, totalling RM42 mil.

The proceedings at the KL High Court, however, won't be broadcast LIVE.

E-bidding for number plates from April 15th

JPJ's e-bidding system for vehicle number plates will start in two weeks.

With the system, bidders no longer need to go to the JPJ office to submit their bids.

In line with it's 75th anniversary theme of "Digitalisation towards Intergrity", JPJ is also planning to offer simulators for learner drivers.

Bank Negara to review housing prices

Bank Negara is working with core players in the housing market to ensure affordable housing is priced correctly.

It says houses in Malaysia are seriously unaffordable, five times higher than what buyers can bear.

In fact, 74 percent of the unsold residential properties are priced beyond what ordinary Malaysians can afford.

Bank Negara will also ensure a potential buyer does not overcommit, meaning he or she should be able to service the house loan and have enough money for other obligations.

Separately, the proposed Residential Tenancy Act is expected to be ready for implementation in two years.

The National Housing Department says the first phase, a study and data collection, should be completed this year.

The act will help the government determine the affordable rental rate based on location, as well as laws to protect both tenants and owners.
