Malaysia has become dumping ground for Australia’s rubbish

In an expo’se by Australian current affairs program, 60 minutes, it was reported that 71 thousand tonnes of rubbish from Australia were shipped to Malaysia in the past year.

It’s because Australia’s recycling factories can’t cope with the massive amount of plastics that’s being thrown away on a daily basis.

Energy Minister Yeo Bee Yin told 60 minutes, that Australia needs to deal with their own rubbish.

"I really think every country should take care of their own waste. We have 400 containers at customs now, full of plastic waste. This is what I really want to do, I want to send them all back to their country of origin."

She adds, the government has so far shut down 150 illegal recycling factories nationwide since last July, and will impose stricter restrictions on plastic waste imports.
