Stop bickering about matriculation quota

May 23, 2019

Stop bickering

Continous protests over the matriculation quota may affect the programme negatively.

Education Director-General Datuk Dr Amin Senin says the non-stop debates and disputes could cause teaching staff to lose focus.

He also slammed the rude reactions to the government's decision to retain the 90:10 quota, saying such rudeness has no place in the education environment.

Economic Affairs Minister Datuk Seri Azmin Ali also feels the matriculation issue is being too long-drawn out, while the Youth and Sports Minister has also called for a show of unity within Pakatan Harapan amid the debate about the quota.

Avoid Jakarta riot hotspots

Those in Jakarta, Indonesia have been advised to avoid riot hotspots such as Tanah Abang and Sabang.

The Malaysian Embassy there has also urged Malaysians to be extra careful after deadly riots broke out, triggered by President Joko Widodo's election win.

At least six people have been killed in the violence so far.

Meanwhile, Jakarta has introduced curbs on social media to prevent the spread of fake news, which saw a spike since Widodo was declared the election winner on Tuesday.

Dozens of viral posts and doctored videos have been calling for violence, including the use of explosives.

A nation in mourning...
