PTPTN has revealed the top two misconceptions about the Pakatan Harapan government's manifesto regarding the higher education loan fund.
It says a lot of people think the government promised borrowers that they would not have to make repayments, and that PTPTN would be abolished.
However, if PTPTN is abolished, the private sector would have to step in with loan alternatives, which means higher interest rates.
PTPTN clarified that PH had actually promised to lift the travel ban against defaulters, which it did after winning GE14.
Meanwhile, its second promise, to defer repayment until a borrower’s salary reaches RM4000, needs to be re-considered on fears that it would take too long for the loan to be paid up.
Latheefa Koya resigns as PKR member
Human rights lawyer Latheefa Koya has resigned as a PKR member.
This is presumably to avoid conflict of interest, following her appointment as the new MACC chief.
She replaces Datuk Seri Mohd Shukri Abdull, who opted to cut short his tenure, which was set to end in May next year.
Meanwhile, lawyer Melissa Sasidaran will take over from Latheefa as the new Director of Lawyers for Liberty.

Police are looking for two men, who were seen in a viral video confronting a driver with a machete and damaging the victim’s car in Pasir Gudang, JB.
The cops believe the suspect was unhappy at not being given space to cut into the victim’s lane.
Just last week, a man was sentenced to jail, for smashing a car windscreen with his helmet in Seri Kembangan, after the car driver honked him for blocking the road.
