There's far more who "benefited" from 1MDB

Jun 26, 2019

The recent civil forfeiture filed by the MACC against 41 entities to recover 1MDB money, is just the tip of the iceberg.

Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng says he believes far more people had received money misappropriated from 1MDB, although he is unsure if the MACC will be drawing up a new list.

He says the recipients include companies and even press and media associations.

Lim is hoping that those individuals will voluntarily come foward and return the money, before the MACC goes after them.

Johor police set up road block amid Pasir Gudang pollution

Police have mounted road blocks around Pasir Gudang, to prevent irresponsible parties from transporting out toxic waste.

This, amid concerns that some of the factories responsible for the latest pollution there, may be trying to smuggle out the waste to hide the evidence.

Meanwhile, the Johor state government has set up a commitee to constantly monitor the industrial activities in Pasir Gudang, to ensure the pollution doesnt happen again.

In a related development, the Education Ministry says it will be meeting soon with the relevant agencies, to determine if the school closure needs to be extended.

All schools, kindergartens and higher learning institutions in the district are currently closed until tomorrow, as a precaution.
