Special tourist police team for VMY 2020

The government is planning to form a special tourist police team to improve safety for foreign visitors in conjunction with Visit Malaysia Year 2020.

The Tourism, Arts and Culture Ministry says it will be meeting the Home Ministry soon to discuss the proposal. 

If the move is implemented, the officers will be stationed at popular tourist spots in every state.

Pasir Gudang victims should get aid

The government has been urged to provide aid and funding to those affected by the two chemical pollution incidents in Pasir Gudang, Johor this year. 

The Pasir Gudang MP says the incidents can be considered a disaster and the government should pay out at least a token sum to the victims. 

Earlier, the Deputy Prime Minister said that the government had yet to decide on compensation for the victims, focusing instead on providing medical assistance in the immediate aftermath of the pollution.

States need to amend laws to reflect lower voting age

State governments have been urged to amend their respective laws to allow 18-year-old's to become representatives in the State Legislative Assembly.

The current minimum age is still 21. 

This, after the Dewan Rakyat recently approved an amendment to the Constitution lowering the minimum age to be a voter or to stand in elections to 18.

Malaysians urged to be vigilant in HK

Malaysians in, or travelling to Hong Kong have been advised to be cautious amid pro-democracy demonstrations there.

The Malaysian Consulate-General in Hong Kong and Macau told The Star, visitors should regularly check for updates on which areas to avoid.

The paper also reports that flights from KL to Hong Kong are operating as usual for now.
