Lynas is not going anywhere, for now...

Aug 19, 2019

The government is sticking by its decision to allow Lynas a six-month licence renewal.

Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad said the decision was made after consulting experts who understand the danger of radioactive waste.

"Do you go according to popular view, or do you do according to experts? If you go according to popular view, there is nothing we can do because everytime we propose to do something, there will be somebody who is against it."

This follows an anti-Lynas protest in Kuantan yesterday, attended by a few hundred people, including anti-Lynas activist Bentong MP Wong Tack.

Amid calls for him to resign for failing to kick the rare earth processing factory out of Malaysia, Wong Tack told us he refuses to quit and will continue the fight.
