Govt urges Indonesia to combat trans-boundary haze

The govt wants Indonesia to take immediate action to fight transboundary haze, caused by a spike in the number of forest fires there. 

According to reports, 6,312 hot spots have been detected in Kalimantan, which has affected air quality in parts of Sarawak.

7 areas there reported unhealhty air quality at 5pm today, including Sri Aman, Kuching, Samarahan and Miri. 

Over in the Peninsular, Batu Muda KL, Johan Setia, Klang and Nilai, Negeri Sembilan reported unhealthy air quality levels.

A special govt taskforce will be set up to look at alternative forms of punishment to the mandatory death penalty.

The de-facto law minister says it will be chaired by a former Chief Justice, and will be consist of former members of the Federal Court, Attorney General's Chambers and Prisons Dept.

There will also be reps from the Malaysian Bar, Suhakam, academicians, and members of civil society.

Former Zimbabwean president Robert Mugabe has died at age 95.

He was in Singapore for medical treatment over an undisclosed illness. 

Mugabe ruled Zimbabwe for 3 decades until he was overthrown in a military coup in 2017.
