WAO wants more funding to protect children

Oct 07, 2019

Women's rights campaigners want the government to do more for survivors of domestic and child violence.

Executive Director of the Women's Aid Organisation Sumitra Visvanathan told us that WAO wants the government to incease spending on social protection:

"This will enable JKM to better support domestic violence survivors and child violence survivors. There is a need to fund more social welfare officers. There's a need to upscale training. There's a need to expand counselling services. All of which, is so critical, in order for us to build better and safer communities."

Meanwhile, on our Astro Radio News Facebook poll, you told us you prefer the government to focus on the BSH or Household Living Aid in Budget 2020, rather than more welfare assistance for the B40 group.

The Finance Minister is scheduled to table Budget 2020 on Friday.
