The Deputy Prime Minister says an increase in eye problems among kids could be related to prolonged exposure to smart devices.

Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail says parents should restrict their children’s use of these devices to no more than 2 hours a day to minimise the risk of eye strain and sleep disruptions.

Some studies suggest that eye strain from prolonged near focus as well as exposure to blue light from smart devices could increase the risk of developing short sightedness.

A clinical psychologist says it is vital for people to detect the symptoms of depression in kids and teenagers.

Pheh Kai Shuen says this includes being sullen or sad for more than 2 weeks, no longer interested in what they loved before as well as being tempremental and irritable.

He adds that what people can do to help, is to listen to them patiently.. and if needed guide them to seek professional help.

This is in conjunction with World Mental Health Day today.
