More LTTE-related arrests

A further five individuals have been detained by the police over alleged links to the LTTE terror group. 

They were picked up in Melaka, Penang and Selangor during an operation by Bukit Aman's Counter Terrorism Division yesterday.

Special Branch Counter-Terrorism Division principal assistant director Datuk Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay says the suspects are accused of promoting and providing funding for the group.

It comes after seven men, including two DAP assemblymen, were arrested on Thursday.

Bukit Aman also clarified that the arrests are not politically motivated.

Companies warned to abide by leave ruling

Companies that refuse to abide by the upcoming ruling to extend maternity leave to 90 days will face stern action.

The Human Resources Ministry says there's no reason for the private sector not to comply... if the civil service can.

The 90 day maternity leave ruling is set to take effect in 2021.

Data collection for fuel subsidy

The government will conduct detailed data collection...to determine the exact number of Malaysians from the middle-income group who are eligible for fuel subsidies as announced under Budget 2020.

The Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry says its working together with the Finance Ministry and the JPJ to come up with the best way of compiling the data.

It comes after the government announced the introduction of the Kad95 for eligible motorists who are not already receiving Bantuan Sara Hidup aid to enjoy a fuel price discount.
 

Storm slams Japan

The death toll from Typhoon Hagibis in Japan has risen to 11 with several others still missing. 

The storm, which is the strongest to hit the country in 6 decades, also left more than a quarter of a million people without electricity.
