Nov 03, 2019

Mercy Malaysia founder Tan Sri Dr Jemilah Mahmood has won the 2019 Asean Prize, for her work in various humanitarian missions and disaster management in the region.

She is the first Malaysian to receive the honour.

The award was presented at the opening ceremony of the Asean Summit in Bangkok, witnessed by all 10 Asean leaders, including PM Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

The Asean Prize was set up last year, to honour outstanding achievements in fostering the Asean identity, promoting the Asean spirit and championing the Asean way.

The first prize went to Philipine autism awareness advocate Erlinda Uy Koe.
