AG says no permit needed for door-to-door campaigning

Nov 15, 2019

The Attorney-General has clarified police permits are not required for walkabouts and door-to-door campaigning under the law.

Tan Sri Tommy Thomas issued the statement after Johor police introduced the new requirement for the Tanjung Piai by-election, following altercations between rival campaigners.

Johor police have yet to respond, but the Election Commission and the Opposition have welcomed the update.

Polling Day for the parliamentary by-election is tomorrow.

Prabakaran will not vacate for Tian Chua

Batu MP P. Prabakaran says he will not give up his seat, in response to a call by 14 NGOs urging him to make way for Tian Chua, Batu's two-term MP.

Malaysia's youngest MP says he will not abandon his constituents.

Tian Chua endorsed Prabakaran's candidacy in GE14 , after he was barred from contesting because of a court fine.

However, the KL High Court recently ruled Chua was actually qualified to contest last year.
