Three more coronavirus cases here confirmed

Jan 29, 2020

A 34-year-old suspect in Bangi has been detained by authorities, for allegedly spreading fake news about the Wuhan coronavirus.

This, after the police and Communications and Multimedia Commission earlier warned that harsh penalties await those who share unverified reports about the virus.

Meanwhile, Malaysia recorded three more confirmed cases of the Wuhan coronavirus.

It brings the total number of infections here to seven, all involving Chinese nationals.

Singapore also confirmed its seventh case, while Thailand saw the number of infections rise to 14.

The WHO will also be sending in a special team of international experts to China as soon as possible, to get a better understanding of the virus, and to guide the global response.

Govt will move to increase face mask supply if need be

The government is keeping an eye on supplies of face masks, amid a surge in demand amid the coronavirus.

It says it will speak with manufacturers to increase supplies if needed, adding that it will also monitor traders to ensure they don't raise prices indiscriminately.

Water polluters, beware

The existing law will be amended, to impose harsher punishment on water polluters.

The Water, Land and Natural Resources Minister said the amendment would also give authorities power to arrest individuals responsible for dumping toxic waste into our waterways.

The Ministry is hoping to table the amendment by October.
