PLUS toll rates reduced starting today

Toll rates at highways owned by PLUS Malaysia went down by 18 percent starting midnight last night. 

They include the NKVE, ELITE, LPT 2, Seremban-Port Dickson HIghway and the Penang Bridge. 

The Finance Ministry says the reduction is part of a gradual move to abolish toll collections altogether.

The Malaysian Medical Association fully supports the govt's proposal to impose harsher penalties for those caught driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, and reckless driving.

It says the move is timely, as many innocent lives have been lost due to crashes caused by those driving under the influence. 

The proposal has also received the full backing of PDRM.

China's death toll from the Wuhan corovavirus outbreak has risen to 259.

Over 11 thousand others have been infected. 

Meanwhile, Thailand has confirmed five new cases, bringing its total number to 19. 

One of the new cases was the country's first local human-to-human transmission.. a taxi driver who had never travelled to China. 

The number of confirmed cases in Malaysia remains at 8
