Govt wants to double the penalty for drunk driving

Feb 14, 2020

The government is considering harsher penalties for reckless and intoxicated drivers.

De-facto Law Minsiter Datuk Liew Vui Keong says the Cabinet has already agreed that current laws need to be amended, and is now looking into imposing a 20-year prison sentence for offenders.

Current laws carry a jail term of up to only 10 years.

Meanwhile, police say 158 individuals were arrested for drunk driving in KL alone, over the month of January.

No one died of coronavirus in Penang

The Health Ministry has denied a local report that a patient had died of COVID-19 at a hospital in Penang.

It clarified that the patient in question died of septic shock not related to the coronavirus.

The Ministry has also addressed a viral video, alleging that COVID-19 had spread to the Selayang Hospital.

It says the makeshift tents seen outside the hospital building, were merely part of its preparation measures to handle any potential cases.

Man gets into argument with local council officer in Subang Jaya

A man in Subang Jaya sustained head injuries when he fell, after getting into a scuffle with a MPSJ enforcement officer.

A video of the incident has gone viral, showing the man hitting the officer with an umbrella, before being pushed to the ground.

ADUN for Subang Jaya Michelle Ng issued a statement, saying that while the man was wrong to hit the officer, the officer should also not have used force in dealing with the situation.
