Yang di-Pertuan Agong to meet with all MP's

Feb 25, 2020

Several busloads of MPs have arrived at Istana Negara, to be interviewed by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.

The Comptroller of the Royal House, Datuk Ahmad Fadil Shamsuddin says it's to help the King identify the next Prime Minister.

He says the meetings are held for only two to three minutes each.

The Palace says the King will meet with all members of Parliament, except Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

The process will go on for two days, with 90 MPs scheduled to be interviewed today.

Meanwhile, some political analysts believe that Tun M has a strong chance to become the next PM.

Associate Prof Dr. Awang Azman bin Awang Pawi says Tun Mahathir is the favoured candidate of both sides of the political divide...

He says that based on the parliament members attending the interviews, he feels many will choose Tun M to again become Malaysia's PM. This is due to them knowing that without Dr Mahathir, it will not be possible to form a government, be it a PH government or a new Pakatan Nasional.

While Dr Oh Ei Sun agrees that a majority of the MPs will support Mahathir, and if the 94-year-old is willing, he will indeed be Malaysia's PM again.

This, as Gerakan and Gabungan Parti Sarawak threw their weight behind the interim PM.

He has also received the backing of former PKR deputy chief Datuk Seri Azmin Ali and his team of MP's.

The economic stimulus package will proceed

Former Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng says Tun M will likely proceed with the economic stimulus package that was drafted by the previous Pakatan Harapan government

Tun will likely announce the package at a later date.

The economic stimulus package is intended to help the country cope with a slowing global economy, due to the Covid-19.

Second evacuation flight to Wuhan still a go

Despite the political turmoil currently sweeping the nation, a second evacuation flight from China is still scheduled to go today, which will see the repatriation of some 75 Malaysians from the COVID-19 striken city of Wuhan.
