No Answers Today on New PM

Feb 27, 2020

The question of our next Prime Minister remains unanswered.

But come Monday, we may get some answers.

The Dewan Rakyat is set to convene then, to decide on the next Prime Minister.

In a press conference to announce the Economic Stimulus Package, Interim Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir said,

"The Dewan Rakyat will be called on the 2nd of next month, in order to determine who has the majority of support in the Dewan Rakyat, to become the next Prime Minister."

Tun M adds this is because after the Yang di-Pertuan Agong's meeting with all the MPs, there was no individual with enough support to be the next Prime Minister.

"The King, as you know, has asked all the Members of Parliament to make a statement in front of him. The result is that he couldn't find anyone with a distinct majority."

On Monday, if the Dewan Rakyat fails to make a decision, Malaysia will go to the polls.

Meanwhile, Tun M confirmed he has returned as Bersatu Chairman, after the party asked him to do so.
