Pakatan Harapan wants to prove it still has majority support in Parliament

Mar 02, 2020

Pakatan Harapan is still pushing for an emergency sitting of Parliament, to show that it has the support of a majority of MPs to form a government.

The former ruling coalition will be sending a letter to the Dewan Rakyat speaker today.

However, PAS President Datuk Seri Hadi Awang says there's no need for a special sitting of Parliament, as the Yang Di-Pertuan Agong has already appointed the Prime Minister.

PAS - a member of the new Perikatan Nasional - is back in a ruling coalition for the first time since 1974.

Meanwhile, the Prime Minister will ultimately decide on whether the Parliament sitting on March 9th will proceed or be postponed.

The Dewan Rakyat Speaker says he does not decide on dates for Parliament sittings, adding that he'll be communicating with new PM Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin on the matter.
