The MP says he wasn't aware that he was carrying the virus as he was asymptomatic. He didn’t display any typical symptoms of the coronavirus like fever, cough or flu.

Dr Kelvin Yii shared with us how he felt when he first received his diagnosis…

“I was rather nervous, I didn’t know what to expect as I’ve never been admitted to hospital long-term. The medical staff were very helpful, they explained to me my condition and also the treatment plans they had for me.”

The Sarawak DAP MP also spoke to us about his experience while being under quarantine for treatment…

“It was definitely tough being quarantined, it caused a bit of concern especially those who came into contact with me, so I had to spend a lot of time to answer all these questions, to assure people as well as to advise them on the next steps to be taken to check if there are symptoms that appears in them.”

He kept himself busy by reading, counting tiles and did simple exercises to keep himself fit in the isolation ward.

Dr Kelvin also told us about the backlash he initially received from some people when he first announced he had tested positive for the coronavirus…

“Even though there were harsh comments…I don't blame them, because I understand their concern, this involves not just their own health, but the health of their families.”

He also urged every Malaysian to play their part in battling Covid-19, saying he’s confident we can all get through this together.
