Malaysia records 16th death by COVID-19

Most of the Covid-19 fatalities in Malaysia are caused by late treatment. 

Health Director-General Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah says many patients only come to hospital when their condition has deteriorated: 

"There are five stages: Stage 1, asymptomatic but positive. Stage 2, positive but mild symptoms. Stage 3, they have some form of pneumonia but they do not require oxygen. Stage 4, they require oxygen, and Stage 5, they can't breathe well and we will need to incubate them and put them on ventilators. Most of them come at Stage 3. The last patient for example, came with symptoms with difficulty in breathing for the last three days.” 

He said this, as the country reported yet another Covid-19 fatality last night. 

The 75-year-old patient is the 16th person in Malaysia to succumb to the coronavirus. 

Meanwhile, the Health Ministry also cautions that a Covid-19 ‘Rapid Test Kit’ currently being sold on the market, cannot help in the early detection of the coronavirus. 

It explained that this particular kit detects antibodies, which typically appears only five to eight days after infection.

The government is going easy on those with expired drivers licenses during the duration of the Movement Control Order.

The Transport Ministry says those with expired private and commercial licenses do not need to renew it during the MCO, but they still require valid insurance coverage.

However, expired licenses will have to be renewed within 30 days of the MCO being lifted.

Wuhan in China - where the coronavirus first emerged - will finally lift its lockdown on April 8th . 

The city of around 11 million has been essentially sealed off from the outside world for the past two months, as part of strict, unprecedented measures to curb the spread of the virus. 

Meanwhile, Italy recorded 743 new Covid-19 fatalities yesterday, although officials say evidence is emerging that the rate of new infections is slowing, thanks mainly to the strict national lockdown there.
