MCO extended to April 14th 2020

Mar 25, 2020

The Movement Control Order, or MCO will be extended for another two weeks, to April 14th.

Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin says this is because the current trend of new COVID-19 infections has yet to slow down, and is expected to continue.

The goverment will conduct a further review, if the MCO period needs to be extended beyond the 14th.

The Prime Minister has also urged Malaysians to stay calm, saying that there is no need to panic-buy food and daily essentials.

Msia's COVID-19 deathtoll rises to 19

Three more COVID-19 deaths have been reported today, raising Malaysia’s death toll to 19.

The Health director general adds, the total number of coronavirus cases has passed 1,790, after 172 new infections were reported today.

Of the new cases, 73 are healthcare workers, and it’s believed most of them contracted the virus at a wedding which was also attended by a participant of a religious gathering in Sri Petaling.

A total of 45 patients are currently in ICU.

110 people arrested for defying MCO guidelines

The IGP says at least 110 people have been arrested for defying the MCO, in the last week.

While he previously said that police will take a soft approach to enforcing the MCO, action will be taken against those who insist on flouting the order.
