You won't be thrown into a crowded lockup if you violate MCO

Apr 01, 2020

Those arrested for violating the Movement Control Order will not be crammed together into police lockups.

Defense Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob clarified that offenders will either be issued summonses on the spot at police stations, or released on bail while awaiting court action.

He says it makes no sense to cram everyone together in a lockup, with the existing social distancing rules in place.

In a related development, 11 individuals of various nationalities, who were seen in a recent viral video jogging outdoors in Mont Kiara, have been fined a thousand ringgit each for breaching the MCO.

Better Covid-19 test kits soon

The Health Ministry is in talks with the US, about getting Covid-19 test kits that can give results within 30 minutes.

The kits are actually being manufactured at a factory in Penang, under contract from America.

Separately, the Ministry says at least 17 people who tested positive for the coronavirus at a condominium block in KL, were linked to the cluster that attended the recent religious gathering in Sri Petaling.

The condo has since been placed under an 'enhanced' Movement Control Order.
