Parliament will convene for just one day on May 18
Apr 18, 2020
Parliament will convene for just one day, when lawmakers meet for the first time this year on May 18th.
In a letter to MPs, the Dewan Rakyat said it will reconvene for the royal address and to debate government matters with regards to the Covid-19 pandemic.
However, there will be no question and answer sessions or motions raised in the House.
No decision yet on sporting events
The Health Ministry says it will advise the National Security Council on the decision of whether to allow sports to be resumed amid the Covid-19 pandemic.
Its director general says the NSC will decide if sporting events could resume and that the ministry would be consulted on the matter.
600 of the cumulative positive Covid-19 cases were foreigners
The Health Director General says some 600 of the cumulative positive cases were foreigners, comprising tourists, migrant workers, refugees and asylum seekers.
As such, he urged companies employing foreign workers to take responsibility and ensure health protocols, such as disinfection and social distancing, are implemented at the workplace.
This is after Singapore recorded a spike in Covid-19 cases, mostly involving migrant worker clusters.
