New Covid-19 cluster identified in returnees from Indonesia red zone

Apr 20, 2020

The government’s decision to screen all Malaysians returning from overseas is showing results.

It has allowed authorities to detect a new Covid-19 cluster, involving Malaysian students returning from an area of Indonesia, that is considered a coronavirus red zone.

So far, 34 of those students have been quarantined in Melaka and nine in KL.

Separately, the Health Ministry will start clinical trials on Covid-19 patients soon, as part of a global WHO initiative to find an effective treatment for the coronavirus.

The Health Director-General says nine local hospitals will be participating in the trials, to test the effectiveness of four different treatment regiments.

The Defence Minister says ATMs are now only allowed to operate from 8am to 8pm daily during the MCO, to ensure people don’t use it as an excuse to go out at night.

He also said that a grace period has been given for the registration of births and deaths, which can now be done within 90 days after the end of the MCO.
