Road to single-digit daily COVID-19 cases

Apr 21, 2020

The Health Ministry is considering conducting random community antibody testing, particularly in areas classified as Covid-19 red zones.

The Health Director-General says this will help authorities get one step ahead of the coronavirus, as these tests will provide them data on the number of people within the community who are infected but undetected.

Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah adds that when implemented, the Ministry may need the cooperation of private clinics to gather the necessary data.

This, as he warned that the fight against Covid-19 could stretch until next year.

However, the government is keeping up its efforts to flatten the curve, adding that its immediate target is to bring the number of daily cases down to single digits.

The government is also looking at implementing a soft-landing approach when it eventually lifts the Movement Control Order.

This means social distancing rules will still apply, while people will still be advised to stay at home unless absolutely necessary.

This, as 36 cases were reported yesterday, the fourth day in a row we’ve had fewer than a hundred new infections.

Meanwhile, Dr Noor Hisham, who celebrates his birthday today, says the best gift for him would be for all Malaysians to stay at home, and to observe high hygiene standards during the MCO.

New food delivery guidelines

The Transport Ministry has released guidelines for motorcycle food and parcel delivery riders.

Besides the normal safety precautions, the guidelines also require riders to sanitize their delivery boxes daily and for them to be registered under the National Security Council’s mySejahtera app, for validation by enforcement personnel.

Separately, the Penang City Council is considering a proposal, for several nasi kandar restaurants on the island to be allowed to offer food delivery services for the pre-dawn Sahur meal during the fasting month.
