Malaysia reports 92 total COVID-19 deaths

Apr 21, 2020

Three more patients have succumbed to COVID-19, raising our death toll to 92.

Meanwhile, 57 new cases were reported today, and this takes the total number of infections to 5,482.

Of the total infections, only 2000 or so are active cases.

Health Director General, Datuk Dr Noor HIsham Abdullah says new cases have been on a downward trend recently.

He hopes that the number can be reduced to single digits for the remainder of the Movement Control Order.

Meanwhile, 57 patients were released from hospital today, meaning 61% of all cases have now made full recoveries.

Government to consider allowing students at uni halls to return home

Students stuck at their university campuses during the Movement Control Order may be allowed to return home.

The Defence Minister says a decision will be made based on advice by the National Security Council and the Health Ministry.

Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob didn’t say when it will happen, as it depends on several criteria.

This includes how soon the students can be tested for COVID-19 before being allowed to go home.

Selayang Market only closed temporarily

Defence Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob Sabri has clarified that the Selayang Wholesale market has only been ordered to close for four days, so that it can undergo sanitisation.

Earlier reports said the market, which is located near an Enhanced Movement Control Order area, was told to shut down for the duration of the EMCO.
