There won't be mass screenings for COVID-19

Malaysia is sticking with the targeted approach to test for COVID-19.

The Health Director-General says he’s always asked if mass screening for everyone would be a better idea, but from what they’ve seen so far, targeted testing is showing good results:

“If you have close contact with a positive patient, the chances of you testing positive is 30%; that is the data that we have. Our approach from early containment to late containment is ‘active case detection’ on PUI and close contact patients. With this targeted approach in MCO 1 and 2, we have shown the results today. If we were to do a mass screening for a 32 million-population – the whole country, is it necessary? So we still maintain a targeted approach at the MOH; to the location itself and high-risk groups.”

Meanwhile, Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah says both KLIA and KLIA 2 will soon have rapid test kits, to screen travellers going through these two entry points.

MOH to hire private doctors on contract-basis

The Health Ministry is calling on private medical doctors and specialists to join the national fight against COVID-19.

According to Malaysiakini, the Ministry is offering a six-month paid contract to qualified and registered Malaysian medical practitioners, to provide crucial health services amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Schools are not set to reopen in June

The Education Ministry has denied viral rumours that classes for Form 5 and 6 students will resume on June 2nd.
