Don't get complacent even once MCO is lifted

The Movement Control Order has thus far proven successful in reducing the number of positive COVID-19 cases in Malaysia.

However, Health Director-General Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah isn’t ruling out the possibility of a second wave of cases if and when the government eases restrictions, like what happened in countries such as Singapore and Hong Kong:

“We realise that on April 3rd we had 217 cases; that was the peak then. We were then expecting a peak on April 14th, but we didn’t see a peak. Which means that MCO 1 and 2 have actually flattened the peak, and we are now at the recovery phase, not a peak phase. So we hope that we can continue our momentum and make sure that we can control and reduce the cases from time to time. Nonetheless, it’s not impossible to have an exponential surge if we let our guard down.”

Dr Noor Hisham adds that it’s imperative that we uphold our current social norms such as staying at home and practising good personal hygiene, if we are to completely flatten the curve.

This, as Malaysia reported 88 new coronavirus cases yesterday – the eighth straight day that we’ve reported fewer than a hundred new infections.

The total number of cases now stands at 5,691 with 1,900 or so being active cases.

If you're stranded, you'll soon be able to return home

Starting tomorrow, Malaysians stranded around the country unable to return home, will be able to apply to travel out of state through the Gerak Malaysia app.

Bukit Aman says the approved travel period will only be between 1st and 3rd May, and there are regulations that have been put in place.

Those who don’t have access to the Gerak Malaysia app can make a written application at your nearest police station.

Malaysians leaving Singapore on land must get a permit

Malaysians who wish to return home from Singapore by land are required to obtain an entry permit from the High Commission of Malaysia there from April 27th.

Applicants need only email their particulars as well as their relevant documentation, at least two days before their date of departure.
