Still unclear if coronavirus can spread through food

May 12, 2020

There is no hard evidence that Covid-19 can be spread through food.

Nevertheless, the Health Ministry is waiting for a report from the Veterinary Services Department on whether the virus is found to be present in livestock.

Health Director-General Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah, however, says it's important that food is cooked thoroughly before consumption.

-----

Social distancing must still be maintained, even though the Prime Minister recently said that up to 20 people are allowed to gather for festivals in the same state.

The Health Director-General says the number of attendees depends on the size of the premises they're gathering at.

-----

The government will consider taking action against parents who bring their kids along to supermarkets and shopping malls amid the CMCO.

Defense Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob says that while there is currently no law prohibiting parents from taking their kids out, it is not encouraged during the Covid-19 outbreak.
