Govt begin talks to ease border restrictions

Jun 09, 2020

Singapore says it's prepared to work with Malaysia, to address the needs of those who need to travel between both countries for work or business.

The Republic says any proposed arrangements will have to include mutually-agreed public health protocols, so that cross-border movement is conducted safely.

Our Defense Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob, however, says the move will only take place after discussions between the two Foreign Ministries.

-----

In a separate development, Health Director-General Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah says Malaysia will only consider easing cross-border restrictions, once Covid-19 infections are brought fully under control.

He says even when our borders are reopened, travel will only be allowed with countries that have low Covid-19 cases.

This came as Malaysia recorded just seven new Covid-19 cases yesterday, the lowest daily infection rate since early March.
