Record high COVID-19 deaths

Malaysia has recorded 16 COVID-19 deaths yesterday, its highest number of casualties to date.

The Health Director General says all of them were Malaysians, nine of which were reported in Selangor, and the rest in Sabah and Johor.

The coronavirus death toll now stands at 537.

This, as the country registered another 2,643 cases yesterday.

No deaths from EPF Miri firebomb throw

There were no casualties reported after a firebomb was thrown at the EPF Miri branch in Sarawak yesterday.

It says it is working closely with authorities to investigate the incident.

According to reports, police are tracking down a motorcyclist allegedly responsible for the incident.

No Thaipusam events in Selangor due to COVID-19

There will be no events to commemorate Thaipusam in Selangor, as a precaution against COVID-19.

State authorities say they will instead use the funds allocated for the celebration to help the Indian community there.
