Another day of record-high Covid-19 infections

The number of new Covid-19 cases has once again hit a new high…with 5,728 infections reported yesterday.
There were also 13 additional fatalities, bringing the country’s overall death toll to 746.
Selangor accounted for most of yesterday’s new cases…with 3,285 recorded.
Vaccine trials ongoing

A batch of 62 volunteers have become the first people in the country to receive the Covid-19 vaccination jabs.
They are part of the third phase of clinical trials in Sungai Petani, Kedah.
The volunteers will each receive two jabs and be closely monitored for any adverse effects to the vaccine.
Private doctor could soon issue quarantine orders
Private GP’s could soon be given the power to issue home quarantine orders on people suspected of contracting Covid-19.

The Health Minister told the MalayMail the government is currently working on revising the Emergency Ordinance to make this happen.
The home surveillance order can currently only be issued by government doctors.
SOP fine not harsh enough

The IGP feels the time has come to increase the fine for those flouting Covid-19 SOP’s.
He says the current one thousand ringgit fine does not appear to be enough of a deterrent, with thousands of summonses issued to errant individuals each week, mainly for not adhering to physical distancing.
