MOH reveals reason behind sudden spike in Covid-19 cases

The spike in Covid-19 cases over the past three days has been caused by a backlog in case reporting, with some dating back to last year.

The Health Ministry says there were also delays in reporting by private clinics and hospitals.

It says the rapid surge in cases recently arose from wide-scale targeted screenings on workplaces, close contacts, as well as high-risk groups.

Malaysia’s daily Covid-19 cases has dropped to 5,298 after two straight days of record-high cases.

Selangor and Johor both contributed new infections in the four-digit range.

This, as the number of active cases in the country inches closer to the 50,000 mark.

A total of 115 volunteers have been vaccinated in the third phase of a Covid-19 clinical study involving 9 hospitals in five states.

The Health Ministry says they are the earliest group from 3,000 volunteers comprising individuals above the age of 18 years who met the stipulated conditions and criteria.

The National Security Council has agreed to allow 6 categories of students in higher learning institutions to return to their respective campuses starting March 1.

This includes students who need access to practical classes or the use of labs, studios, or special devices as well as those who lack internet access can also return.
