Govt considering heavier penalties on MCO offenders

Heavier penalties could be imposed on those flouting the MCO, especially for businesses.
As we are under a state of emergency, the Senior Minister for Security says ordinances can be passed to allow for heavier fines and longer jail terms for such offenders.
Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob says this is because some are taking the current RM1,000 fine lightly adding that it is not deterrent enough.
The operating hours for restaurants and eateries have been extended till 10pm.
This includes hawkers, roadside stalls and other services involving food.
The Health Ministry reported 3,170 new Covid-19 infections, with KL leading the daily tally.
The fresh cases have brought the total caseload to over 172,549, while active cases stood at around 41,755.
