Country's biggest vaccination exercise to begin soon

Feb 04, 2021

PM Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin says the National COVID-19 Immunisation program will be rolled out at the end of the month, in the country's biggest vaccination exercise.

80% of the population will be vaccinated in three stages, starting with half a million frontline workers.

He says those aged 18 and above will receive their shots during the last phase starting May this year.

Celebrate CNY at home

Those celebrating Chinese New Year next week will only be allowed to do so at home, as a precaution against the spread of COVID-19.

Defence Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob says home celebrations are limited to members of the same household.

He adds that cultural activities associated with the holiday such as lion dances and opera performances are not allowed.

Only five temple committee members will be allowed to carry out prayers, without the attendance of devotees.

Datuk Seri Ismail adds that those looking to balik kampung for the celebration will not be allowed to do so.

He says it’s because inter-district and interstate travel is still banned during the Movement Control Order.

As for those celebrating in Sarawak, Datuk Seri Ismail says SOPs will depend on the state government, as the COVID-19 situation is different there.
