The Malaysian Association of Tour and Travel Agents has welcomed the government’s decision to allow domestic tourism in states under the Recovery MCO.
Its secretary-general Nigel Wong however tells us that it might take a while for the tourism industry to get back on its feet.
"This is mainly because many of the areas still under CMCO such as KL, Selangor and Penang, are where most of the domestic tourists originate from.
This is also the case as many of the travel agencies, the operators, those who are providing transportation services, are also based within these CMCO areas.”
This comes after Putrajaya said one of the conditions for this travel bubble is that tourists must use tour agencies and the use of private vehicles is not allowed.
Daily Covid-19 figures
Malaysia recorded a slight rise in new Covid-19 infections, with 1,448 new cases yesterday.
Selangor is still registering the highest number of new cases per day, with 561, followed by Johor and Sarawak.
The number of patients seeking treatment has, however, declined to 18,000.
Objects falling off vehicles caused almost 780 accidents along the PLUS Highway last year.
Selangor JPJ says this is alarming adding that PLUS also reported nearly 20,000 objects were collected along the highway in 2020.
