Malaysia could be hit by a fourth wave of Covid-19 infections!

The Health Ministry says this will depend on the reopening of borders, the public’s adherence to SOPs as well as the effectiveness of the vaccination programme.

This comes after we recorded a spike in the infection rate over the weekend with 9 cases of the highly-contagious South African variant.

The Ministry says it’s prepared for any possibility as cases increase in several states.

Summonses will be issued to those caught attempting to travel interstate to return to their hometowns to celebrate Ramadan.

Bukit Aman says more stringent checks will be conducted at all state border roadblocks, and only those authorised will be allowed through.

Meanwhile, Putrajaya says the decision on whether to allow people to return to their hometown for Hari Raya will depend on the Health Ministry’s risk assessment.

It adds that the matter must be taken seriously, as inter-state travel led to a spike in Covid-19 cases during past celebrations.

Penang and Putrajaya have so far recorded the highest number of Covid-19 vaccination registrations, while Sabah recorded the lowest.

The government says 90% of the population in Penang had signed up, while 89% of those in Putrajaya have done the same.

However, only 12% of those in Sabah have registered to be vaccinated via the MySejahtera app.
