Five districts in Kedah under MCO

Five districts in Kedah have been placed under a Movement Control Order from today, due to a rise in COVID-19 cases.
The Defence Minister says the order involves Kota Setar, Kuala Muda, Bandar Baharu, Baling, and Kulim.
Meanwhile, he says an Enhanced MCO has been enforced in several areas in Sabah and Sarawak for two weeks.

New coronavirus variant found in Sarawak
A new COVID-19 variant spreading in the Philippines has been detected in Sarawak.
Health authorities say the mutation could overcome natural and vaccine-induced immunity, adding that it could be more transmissible.
As such, everyone has been urged to continue following SOPs to prevent the emergence of new variants that could affect vaccine efficacy possibly leading to more severe infections.

RM2k max fine for SOP violations by small businesses
Police say the maximum fine amount for SOP violations committed by small businesses such as roadside traders and hawkers, is RM2,000.
The Deputy IGP says state police chiefs will be instructed to follow the new guideline, which was issued by the Health Ministry earlier this week.
This comes after several individuals running small businesses were recently slapped with large compounds for breaching COVID-19 rules.
