Malaysia has reached a record high number of new COVID-19 cases, after we passed the 8 thousand mark today.

8,290 infections were reported today, compared to over 7,800 yesterday.

Selangor continues to record the most cases at 2,052, followed by Kelantan and KL.

The Health Ministry also reported 61 fatalities, raising the death toll to 2,552.

Vaccine NOT a cure for COVID-19

People who have been vaccinated against COVID-19 are not completely immune to the coronavirus.

The Health Ministry stressed that the vaccine is meant to boost antibodies against the virus, adding that it is not a cure for the disease.

It was responding to its earlier report that some 1,000 frontliners were infected by COVID-19 despite being inoculated.

Msia on track to reach 150k daily vaccination rate target

Malaysia is close to reaching its target to administer 150,000 COVID-19 vaccine doses a day.

Yesterday, more than 100,000 doses were given, with first-time recipients accounting for more than half of the total.

All in, over 2.7 million doses have now been administered under the National Immunisation Program.
